TU Darmstadt stands for excellent and relevant science. We are playing a decisive role in shaping far-reaching processes of global change—from energy transition to artificial intelligence—through outstanding scientific knowledge and innovative academic programmes. We group our cutting-edge research into three fields: Energy and Environment, Information and Intelligence, Matter and Materials. We are a university with strong ties to the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region and a very strong international focus. We are committed to European values and European integration.
The Department of Mathematics at Technical University of Darmstadt is renowned for its excellent research and teaching. With a strong commitment to innovation and the values of TU Darmstadt, the department covers a wide range of mathematical disciplines, including pure, applied, and computer-oriented mathematics. Our faculty members are internationally recognized in their respective fields and promote a modern inclusive research community. We maintain strong interdisciplinary and international collaborations, as well as collaborations within the context of the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU). With the advertised professorship, we aim to strengthen and expand our efforts in this regard.
As part of its commitment to the interdisciplinary environment of TU Darmstadt, the department provides service-teaching for other technical departments. Particularly relevant for the advertised professorship is that the education of students in the formal foundations of computer science is provided by the Department of Mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics at TU Darmstadt seeks candidates at the earliest possible date (no later than October 2025) for an assistant professorship (W2 with tenure track) for Pure Mathematics.
The research focus of the professorship should be in one of the areas:
The department places great value on engagement in teaching within the mathematics programs and mathematical education for students of other departments. Therefore, the professorship should also contribute to teaching with a high level of commitment by participating in the mathematics programs and lectures on formal foundations of computer science.
Furthermore, participation in the department's third-party funding efforts in the RMU context (particularly relating to the DAIS initiative https://dais.rhein-main-universitaeten.de/) is expected.
We are looking for an outstanding scientist in an early career phase with promising potential who is internationally recognized in one of the above-mentioned fields and who will represent the department in research and teaching. This should be evidenced by an outstanding doctoral degree and relevant publications.
As part of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region, Technical University of Darmstadt and its surroundings are characterized by living internationality. The core element of this is a cosmopolitan climate with functional multilingualism at our university. Therefore, very good English and, at the latest after three years, good German language skills are expected.
The assistant professorship is designed as a qualification professorship according to §70 HessHG (Hessian Higher Education Act). Accordingly, the academic activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the academic activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years. This maximum duration may be extended in the event of birth, adoption or having children. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than TU Darmstadt or have been academically active outside TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.
A tenure track is planned for the assistant professorship: After a successful probationary period of six years, there is an immediate transition to a permanent W2 professorship. For further information, please refer to the statutes for assistant professorships at Technical University of Darmstadt.
Technical University of Darmstadt offers varied and challenging assignments, freedom to work independently, the latest technologies, good collaboration between colleagues in partnership, needs-based training opportunities and customised personnel development.
TU Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications, applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference.
